This is the time of "way back when". Most commonly referred to by your grandparents. A time of 10 cent gas and brand new 1000 dollar cars. A time where total wars still rage on, taking your brothers, husbands, and fathers away to fight without their say. A time of The Great Depression and Prohibition. A time where the word "swell" was used in everyday conversation. Where dancers were considered the most talented and thought of as 'gay' the happy-go-lucky way. A time where rolling a hoop down the street and playing marbles was the most fun a kid could have and paper boys were the best type of job they could ever dream up and accomplish. A time when women were always made up to look their best and didn't much care about the fact they couldn't vote and only took care of their families. This is that time.*
Black and white is the look, zoot suits and sun dresses are the style. You're an aspiring actor, singer, or dancer trying to make it big in New York City. It's not so easy as it is now. Jobs are scarce from the Depression and you could be living on the streets. Drama is around every corner so be wary. The mafia is well known for getting you moved up the social latter faster than you could imagine. They own all the hottest spots and they know how to turn an apple seller on a street corner into a five star actress. They'll push you up until you can't go up any further. Just make sure you don't get on their bad side, or it's the bottom of the lake for you. In a city where you could be the next big thing, are you ready to risk it all for fame? After all, this isn't called Turner Classic for nothin'.
