Leaves

Sometimes I want to tell you everything
Other times I want you far away
I wish I could ask you for a hug
You would give it, but you’d ask why
And I know that if I did tell you
You would definitely cry
But you wouldn’t be crying for me
That is why my secrets are for me
Me only, and maybe a friend or two
But even they don’t know the depth
Or the shallowness in some cases
Of what I do and do not say
I hide myself, even when I’m open
Even this confession is uncomfortable
I try to write what I think and what I feel
Maybe it isn’t poetry to you
But it is release for me
You, others, and even I do not confine me
This page, this pencil, they are limitless
I yearn more for the glint of silver
A dash of red, color in the bland half-light
But the scars horrify me more than I thought
And it leads me back to wanting to confess
But I am afraid, so incredibly scared
I do not wish for death, oh no
Somehow, that almost makes this worse
I cannot figure myself out
That is the scariest part of all
At least there are songs, from other poets
Lyrics always running through my mind
How they fit, how they contrast, how they define me
But I am not sure I want to be defined
I do not know if I like to stand out or fade back
What’s black and white and red all over?
I am.

Especially the last two lines are really... I don't have a word for it. That was really, really amazing and deep...
But so very sad.. Is that all true?

I agree with RJ. It's really deep, sad and emotional. To me, that's what poetry is, emotions written down.
The only way I can "say" how I feel is through poetry, too. But, anyways, I feel it's a really good poem and it makes the reader really feel for the writer.

Honestly, I haven't even the slightest idea of how to begin. xD

It's hard. I've written a couple, and I find that they're not as good as my "sad" poems... Some people find it easier, though, I honestly don't know how. =/
